DAWNING” by Gregg Holtgrewe has been one of our favorite projects to-date and it’s looking like THEY will continue to be more and more involve with it, which we’re very excited about.

The poster series we created for the film are getting some love over at the site “Oh The Horror“, so we thought we’d write about them a little bit.

After a long, grueling shoot in the woods & a very hot, small cabin the filmmakers, cast and I rushed over to Matt Blum’s studio before their flights would take them out of town. Matt is a fantastic photographer, a former studio-neighbor, and a friend of ours & we were proud to work with him on it. After living on set and sweating together for days and days, I felt I understood the complex honesty of the film and this was one of the few times where my vision was 100% clear before we began and the results were exactly what I wanted. Each shot is recreating the moments in the film when each character is realizing the cause of all the horror, which means that the actors had to perform once again – even if it was only for 1 frame. Everyone was a pro and we knocked out the photos just in time.

“DAWNING” has toured some festivals and received many accolades thus far. Now they are coming back around armed with a new cut of the movie and some other production refinements. We look forward to their much deserved success. It won’t be long until we screen print these posters and when we do we’ll be sure to let you know.

THEY summon to their Studio a multitude of friends for a gathering of most unusual magnificence.

MEAT & GREET party (facebook event)
    February 4th, 2010
    5pm – 11pm
THEY Studio – 77 13th Ave. NE Minneapolis, MN 55413

An affair of the heart, possessed and twisted by the machinery that now sits cold on the stone floor of our Studio. A hideous letterpress with blood as its seal, flesh as its paper.

Dare it insult us all with its mockery? Or shall we revel in defiance?

There will be beer and camaraderie. There will be art and candy. There will be music and… the scarlet-stained ink of movable type.

Come, join us for our Client party and see our space, our work, our mural and our letterpress. It would love to meat you.

There’s nothing like blogging about being blogged about, but we wanted to let you all know that we were very happy to have the Treebacca poster featured on CHUD.com as well as JoBlo.com! Consequently there was a landslide of orders on our Etsy store and both the regular and the Special Edition posters are sold out.

Special thanks to Chris Grap from the MN Film & TV Board, for staying up all night printing with me and his sister Sophie for all the help getting us on Chud!

    Happy Life Day,

    Treebacca

The Minnesota Film & Televison Board has once again inspired us to create a poster! This time for their annual screening of the horrendous Star Wars Holiday Special they are lovingly, if not sarcastically, hosting as a Toys for Tots event.

With the SWHS providing so many foul ideas to be inspired by it was hard to land on just one. We arrived at the realization that there aren’t enough drugs in the world for us to get to the same mental place as the creators. But we couldn’t let the wookiee win on this, so we dug deep. Sometimes the truth is just so simple it cannot be denied. In this case a furry brown Christmas tree is as close to the truth as one can come without losing their mind. But is it a Wooktree? Is his name Chewtree? No, his name is Treebacca.

We’ve just finished the limited edition [50] posters for the finale show for our great friends “So It Goes“. The phrase appears 116 times in Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse Five” and gave the band it’s name. The main character Billy Pilgrim says that on his epitaph he’d like the phrase “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt”, so we found it a fitting end to the group’s career as a band.

Besides the quote, the concept was to incorporate the 80’s root of the band, as well as a sarcastic take on death. What evolved was an image of the Grim Reaper experiencing the classic 80’s Maxell “Blown Away” ad [where Steve Steigman was the photographer and Richard Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" was used for music].

Extremely special thanks to the gifted surrealist artist Alison Lindburg for her excellent illustration of the concept.

The very limited edition 9″ x 24″ posters will be for sale this Friday 12/04/09 at the Fineline for $15 and hand signed by the band as well as the artist Clinton Lugert. They are also available on our POSTER STORE while they last.

Farewell “So It Goes”, you will be dearly missed
